Kota Kinabalu--Welcome Seafood Restaurant with Terrance

While travelling to the EARCOS conference in Kota Kinabalu, I happened to meet one of the parents of a currently enrolled student at Dalat IS.

He happened to own the hotel I was booked to stay at (took him a while to realize that I was there since he did not even know the name of his hotel!).

However, once it was obvious that I was staying at his hotel, he rolled out the red carpet with a room upgrade, use of the hotel car, massages each day and meals with him if I desired! Thank you, Terrance!

Here he is ordering an amazing fish to be steamed at the Welcome Seafood Restaurant.

I did not dare ask how much this fish cost, but I saw that it was rather pricey in the tank! I know it is a bargain compared to Penang and KL let alone Singapore and Hong Kong, which is why KK has so many tourists throughout the year!

Bake Day

On the agenda today was baked apple pie and the week's order of gluten free white bread.

The apple pie was so good that it did not last long once it left the oven.

Aria had lots of fun assisting, mum!

Re-Booting the School Butterfly Farm

Over the break, the school tasked me with the job of re-starting the butterfly farm.

So when the butterfly farm sent us the viable chrysalis to mount on the rods, we invited the Trescotts to help us with this very cool and special task.

One chrysalis surprised us by twitching as we handled it gently to mount on a rod! We asked the butterfly farm about it later and they said that some cocoons did it for no apparent reason.

Safely attached, we returned the incubating box back into the enclosure.

A Day with the Trescott Family

We began by bowling, which we had not done in ages!

Great fun laughing at ourselves and each other!

Since we had not bowled for so long, we took it easy and moved on to a quick snack before going to the beach for hotdogs and smores...

Aria wanted to build a fire in the hole... but it kept dying as when it consumed all available oxygen as it burned.

Soon, we helped the kids by enlarging the hole and providing a means for air to vent the fire.

The hot dog fire was content...

Balik Pulau Crawl with Loh and Koay Family

It is just a fish curry done in the traditional Malay style.

But given that the fish can't get any fresher, and the gravy is mild so that Aria fights me on drinking it up, we simply can't get enough of this curry at Eryna Cafe.

So of course, we had to share this spot with our foodie friends as part of our food crawl around Balik Pulau!

Even Loh who first brought Monica to this place was along for the crawl!

In this well known coffeeshop, you can choose between the traditional assam laksa or the coconut enriched version. You can even get a half and half.

Finally, we went to the Chendol spot to cool off.

With lunch out of the way, we proceeded to the Nutmeg farm

Our host and presenter was very passionate and patient with our questions.

We were tempted to end our wonderful day with dinner together, but we were getting tired and needed to move on.
