World Religions Field Trip

Monica and Ian accompanied us on this field trip. I had always enjoyed driving and chaperoning this trip prior.

We began at the Hindu Temple in our neighborhood. The presenter who was also the keeper, was thorough.

Very thorough.

Long after he managed to lose our interest, we managed to slip out and onto our next stop.

Our next stop was the floating mosque. We were thrilled to have the very charismatic presenter again.

Demonstrating ablution is a highlight to this stop.

Having the purpose of a dome for acoustics demonstrated.

Gorgeous view of the bay outside.

Our third stop was KekLokSi Temple. The arrival was quite dramatic as the overloaded van could not climb the steep road leading to the driveway and caused the clutch to overheat. So I had little choice but offload our students to climb the very steep driveway and meet them at the top.

From this perch, a great view of Air Itam and the city below is offered.

With the dramatic elevation and spires, all we need is some mist to complete the scene from "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon". What about installing a zipline to go from the top to the bottom...

Our fourth stop was the Jewish Cemetary where the custom of piling rocks on the tombs is practiced.

Our final stop was the Anglican Chuch of St. George's

All in all a wonderful day--we made it back to campus ahead of schedule. Seeing all 5 religions in one day was very valuable in observations, especially the amount of wealth spent in each location represented by the ethnic religious group.
