Siem Reap, Cambodia--1 Getting There Can Take a Lot Longer than You Think

Travelling with Sugar, yay!

Monica: "So excited about our trip! We are waiting to board... Uncle Heng is in Cambodia already. Funny comments this was our first time in the Penang Domestic Terminal and it is quite different from the International Terminal. We really enjoyed our Dunkin Donuts treat."

Ian: "I don't have any thoughts about this. It is nice to go on a plane. Apparently it's going to be very hot. I hope there are plenty of interesting things to see, hear, smell and taste. I hope I enjoy the experience as a whole."

Aria: "I'm sorta excited about seeing one of the 7 wonders of the world. I want to get a souvenir from Angkor Wat. Whis is Angkor Wat so special? What else are we going  to do there? Any other ruins?

Excited to be travelling to Cambodia, then heartbroken when a flight delay caused us to miss a connection in KLIA2. No recourse from the airline since we chose the budget airline route and booked two separate legs.

We scrambled to repair our flight itinerary to fly the next morning, and then book a transit hotel. A process made tougher because Formula 1 was in town--thank you Benny Koay for the notice.

Monica: "Sooo sad! Our flight from Penang to KL was delayed so that we were prevented from checking in for our next flight. They refused to rush us through. We are stuck at the airport until the 6:50am flight tomorrow morning. Eating and creating salad at the Jaya Grocer in KLIA2 mall was actually fun!"

Meanwhile, we passed a LOT of time in the food court next door, and walked the mall probably 6 times just to get exercise.

We were lucky to find 'Stickys' a rather nice transit hotel for about 8 hours with complimentary food and beverage (even beer) for a reasonable rate for a family room.

Monica: "Wake up at 3:20am. We try again today! We slept in an expensive transit hotel. But with the help of a nice information booth worker, they gave us an extra hour in the room and a 10% discount. Small blessings ARE blessings. So... RM960 for new flight for 4, RM408 for transit hotel. RM___? for food in airport. What we learned? Use web checkin and book longer layovers in KLIA2!"

It was an early start to catch the earliest flight, but we had squandered enough time and money with our mistake.
